Description
1986 Moto Guzzi V65 Lario. The previous owner of this bike was author Melissa Pierson, she’s written a couple of books about her motorcycling experience. This bike is featured in her book “The man Who Would Stop at Nothing”.I contacted her about the issues that made her stop riding it. She said an attempt to make the clutch less heavy didn’t work out and then the throttle started hanging up.
I’ve addressed and repaired both of these issues, new throttle cables and correct clutch adjustment took care of them. I also, changed the idle mixture screws to non-emissions style.
All the fluids have been changed, valve clearance checked, new plugs, new battery and fresh gas. The bike runs and drives great.
I did get some paperwork with the bike. It’s not complete and several receipts didn’t have the mileage. I was able to piece together a service history. The bike was purchased new in 1986 by P Silverstein, it had 14 miles on it. There were some maintenance done, tires, tune, fluids… In 1994 at around 8000 miles, the cam and followers were replaced. Then in 1996, a dyna ignition was installed. Ms. Pierson purchased the bike in 2010, first repair order in her name was dated 2012 with 11353 miles on it, for some gaskets and seals. The last receipt was dated 2015 same shop as the previous and the same mileage, for new tires, carb cleaning and valve adjustment. Those tires are on the bike now and show very little wear. The odometer now reads 17942 miles.
This is a very nice running bike and fun to ride.
