GOLD COGNAC BISQUIT ADVERTISING ASHTRAY, MADE IN FRANCE - 1940s/50s
Another great French cross-collectible! Distillery/Cognac, cigarettes/cigars in a very functional product for advertising in bars and restaurants.
The large square and heavy gold-painted-under-glass ashtray has this embossed/raised lettering on each of four sides: COGNAC BISQUIT
This is the type of ashtray that would have been on the bar tables where Hemingway and Fitzgerald frequented in the 1920s and later. The ex-patriots... artists and writers of the early to mid-20th century. You can picture the tables and the people sitting there in the smoke-filled air of street cafes.
The "Cognac Bisquit" ashtray is handsomely designed. The square ashtray has flat corners where top slots are wide enough to hold cigars.

CONDITION  One teeny flake to base, paint worn. This ashtray has seen plenty. But I think that is part of the history which makes it interesting.
